Legacies of Daughters Passed in Camp Mystic Flood

Fathers of the victims of the 2021 Camp Mystic flash flood are honoring the legacies of their daughters. Ryan Dewitt, Wade Lytal, and Cole Naylor recently joined host Kayleigh McEnany to discuss their podcast, ‘Heaven Meets Earth,’ where they share how their families rely on faith and scripture for comfort. During the emotional interview, they reflected on diaries left by the girls, highlighting their deep-rooted belief.

One year after the flash flood claimed 28 lives, these fathers shared how their daughters’ private faith continues to support them. On ‘Saturday in America,’ Ryan DeWitt, Wade Lytal, and Cole Naylor discussed how the faith of their daughters sustains them.

DeWitt and Lytal mentioned discovering journals filled with Bible verses and prayers written by their daughters, which helped soothe their grief. Ryan DeWitt shared, ‘Molly wasn’t outward about her faith; she felt it very deeply. As hard as those days were, knowing her closeness with God provides comfort.’ Molly died at age 9 in the flood.

Kellyanne Lytal’s journal entry read, ‘Jesus I love you. Thank you for dying on the cross for all of our sins.’ Wade Lytal shared, ‘Our responsibility as parents is ensuring our children love the Lord.’ He turned to such writings for solace, recognizing them as gifts during their darkest moments.

Alli Naylor, mother to Wynne Naylor, who perished in the flood, was present during a court hearing regarding Camp Mystic reopening. Cole Naylor mentioned daily prayer’s role in helping his family cope with Wynne’s loss. He steadfastly speaks of Wynne as alive, saying, ‘Our girls are more alive than any one of us. They’re with us, and we will see them again.’

Camp Mystic has opted not to reopen for the 2026 season due to backlash from grieving families. In their statement, the camp vowed to respect the voices of the families and the community.
