Brittany Boltinhouse, who won the Miss North Carolina USA title in June, had her crown removed weeks later due to past online statements. The organization stated that the decision was based on the “totality of the circumstances” surrounding her previous objectionable speech, rather than her political or religious beliefs.

Organization’s Statement

A Blaize Productions, which holds the state license for Miss USA, clarified that the decision was not influenced by Boltinhouse’s political views or Christian beliefs. In their statement, they emphasized their inclusive ethos, celebrating diversity in backgrounds and beliefs.

Boltinhouse’s Perspective

Boltinhouse, a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, believes her political stance as a conservative Christian impacted the loss of her crown. She maintained pride in her faith, standards, and love for her country, expressing that she will not let down her guard regarding these values.

Contentious Social Media Posts

Organizers attributed their decision to review of past social media posts, including her repeated use of the N-word, labeling such actions inconsistent with the expected standards of a Miss North Carolina USA titleholder. President and CEO of Miss USA, Thom Brodeur, underscored the pageant’s intolerance for racism, homophobia, and transphobia.

“A title here isn’t a trinket.” Brodeur expressed in a statement. “It is a position of trust, extended by an organization and accepted by a woman who agrees to carry a standard in public.”

Consequences and Future Prospects

Following the decision, the title has been passed to Myla Hadley, the first runner-up, who will represent North Carolina at the upcoming Miss USA pageant.

Boltinhouse considers the experience a “blessing in disguise,” relieved that no other young woman had to endure what she is experiencing. Despite the setback, she stresses the right to conservatism and free expression in the United States.
