A teacher from a middle school in Kentucky faces grave criminal charges following allegations of misconduct with a student. The accusations against Sadie M. Flores, a 25-year-old resident of Mayfield, have led to charges of grooming a minor. This charge, categorized as a Class D felony, became effective under a new state law barely weeks ago on July 15.
The Graves County Sheriff’s Office reported that Flores, an instructor at Graves County Middle School, allegedly engaged in an inappropriate relationship with a student in the district. The authorities acted after the school administration reported the allegations, resulting in a criminal probe.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, the investigation involved accessing electronic records, conducting interviews, and applying various investigative measures. Flores underwent questioning on a Friday afternoon before her arrest at approximately 3:30 p.m. She was initially placed in the Graves County Restricted Custody Center, then relocated to a detention center outside the county.
Sheriff Jon Hayden revealed that the investigation is still active.
“District administration was made aware of an allegation involving a teacher at Graves County Middle School. School officials immediately reported this information to the Graves County Sheriff’s Department for investigation,” said Graves County Schools Superintendent Matt Madding in a statement.
Madding further stated that district officials promptly alerted law enforcement upon learning of the claims. Charges have been filed against Flores as a consequence of the investigation, although the details regarding the student’s specifics and potential further charges remain undisclosed. Madding emphasized that student safety is the district’s primary concern.
“We take any allegation involving the safety of a child or the professional conduct of an employee extremely seriously and will continue to cooperate fully with law enforcement and the appropriate authorities,” Madding stressed.
The charge against Flores arises from a law targeting adults who foster improper relationships with minors, prior to engaging in sexual misconduct. Additional details regarding the student’s age or other charges have not been released as the investigation progresses.
