Recovery Update on Rep. Marcy Kaptur After Car Accident

Rep. Marcy Kaptur from Ohio expressed gratitude for the well-wishes received following a car accident in Toledo, Ohio. She and her staffer, Keegan Zimmerman, were involved in the incident earlier this month. The accident occurred while they were traveling to a church service. The vehicle was struck in what Ohio law describes as a ‘hit-skip’ accident, where the driver fails to remain at the scene.

Kaptur, the longest-serving woman in the U.S. House at 80 years old, shared a video update. In the video, she thanked those who supported her recovery, stating, “It’s made a huge difference in my recovery.” She acknowledged the efforts of first responders, medical personnel, and her staff, highlighting her progress.

With the House on recess, Kaptur has additional time to recuperate. She expressed appreciation for the medical care she received at Mercy St. Vincent’s hospital, emphasizing the dedication of their staff.

In the political realm, Kaptur seeks another term in office this November, facing a rematch with former Ohio State Rep. Derek Merrin. Kaptur narrowly defeated Merrin in 2024, a close race that was not subject to an automatic recount.

I want to thank all of you, including my staff, for your support during this time. We are in good condition, and it’s a testament to the excellent medical care we received, Kaptur stated.

In her update, Kaptur also shared a heartwarming moment with a get-well card from a child named Avery. The card featured a drawing of a dog, Charlie, which Kaptur humorously described as “half-human.” This gesture, along with the support from many individuals, has uplifted her spirits.
