Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Freezes Her Eggs Amid Political Decisions

1 day ago 0

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has announced her decision to freeze her eggs as part of her contemplations surrounding future political ambitions leading up to the 2028 presidential election. This decision reflects her desire for greater control over her life, as shared in a statement on Instagram. Though Ocasio-Cortez, 36, did not specify her plans regarding motherhood, she acknowledged taking a ‘political risk’ by openly discussing her personal considerations.

During an appearance on ABC’s ‘This Week’, Ocasio-Cortez revealed that she hasn’t dismissed the possibility of running for president or contesting for the Senate seat occupied by Chuck Schumer, the current floor leader of Democrats, in 2028. She emphasized the importance of normalizing dialogues about the challenges faced by women in professional and personal spheres, particularly shedding light on policies endorsed by former President Donald Trump’s administration.

Ocasio-Cortez criticized the political climate under Trump’s administration, which according to her, denies reproductive rights in areas such as abortion and healthy pregnancies. She argued for open discussions among leadership concerning these crucial topics. The administration’s stance against abortion rights was notably reinforced by Trump’s Supreme Court appointees, pivotal in the 2022 decision that overturned the Roe v. Wade ruling, which had established a constitutional right to abortion.

However, in 2025, Trump signed an executive order intending to reduce costs associated with in vitro fertilization. Previously, Ocasio-Cortez sponsored Democratic legislature in 2022 aimed to federally codify abortion rights following the Supreme Court’s ruling against abortion rights.

Ocasio-Cortez pointed out the varied standards and scrutiny women encounter regarding their family circumstances, a challenge not equally faced by men in similar positions. She remarked, ‘Men run for office or interview for jobs without others questioning their family plans in relation to their career ambitions.’
