Arch Manning, the Texas quarterback, could be a significant challenge for the Southeastern Conference (SEC) this fall. As a highly anticipated prospect since the tenure of Trevor Lawrence, Manning’s transition into college football has garnered extensive attention. During the 2025 campaign, he debuted against Ohio State, resulting in a modest performance with 170 yards, one touchdown, and an interception during their 14-7 loss.
By late October, Manning’s performance improved markedly. On October 25, he threw for 346 yards, scored three touchdowns, and had one interception in a 45-38 overtime victory over Mississippi State. Manning continued his robust play through November, contributing to Texas’ 41-27 triumph over Michigan in the Citrus Bowl. Such performances have led NFL scouts to consider him as a potential top choice in the 2027 NFL Draft, along with Oregon’s Dante Moore.
Concerns are rising among SEC coaches about Manning’s enhanced capabilities this season. One SEC defensive coordinator expressed to ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg the hope that Manning may have an occasional ‘off game’ when competing against their teams.
“He can absolutely rip it, like velocity, accuracy,” a coach stated.
The arrival of wide receiver Cam Coleman via the transfer portal is believed to set Manning up for success. The coordinator expanded:
“It’s going to be really easy this year, because people are gonna have to double Cam Coleman. He’s a real one, and so is (Ryan) Wingo, so it’s like, you can’t double both of them.”
Last season, Manning completed the year with impressive statistics: 3,163 passing yards, 26 touchdowns, and seven interceptions. Additionally, his ground performance added 399 yards and 10 touchdowns.
Further strengthening Texas’s prospects is the addition of running back Hollywood Smothers and fortifications to an offensive line that faced challenges last year.
The enhancements in Texas’s offensive lineup project Manning as a leading quarterback figure in the SEC, positioning Texas as potential frontrunners for the conference championship.
