Chicago Investigates Off-Duty Sergeant’s Confrontation

The Chicago Police Department (CPD) and the Civilian Office of Police Accountability (COPA) are actively investigating an incident involving an off-duty CPD sergeant. A viral video, shared widely on social media, purportedly shows Sergeant Jeremy Sikorski threatening a group of teenagers and their families on the city’s Southwest Side.

The video, initially posted by CWBChicago, displays a muscular, middle-aged man confronting the teens. This prompted both COPA and CPD’s Bureau of Internal Affairs to initiate investigations. As a result, Sikorski has been relieved of his police powers.

The video captures the sergeant questioning the teens about interactions with two younger children. The teens insisted that they were trying to avoid the younger kids, whom they claimed had made inappropriate comments to the teen girls.

“I’ll knock your (expletive) ass out,” Sikorski is heard threatening one of the boys. “Get your (expletive) parents over here. I’ll beat the (expletive) out of them and I’ll beat the (expletive) out of you.”

Despite a woman’s attempt to intervene, Sikorski continued his tirade, threatening: “I’ll knock your (expletive) dad out and I’ll knock your ass out after.” During the confrontation, a teen girl recording the incident had her phone knocked to the ground, causing her distress.

A CPD spokesperson confirmed the disciplinary actions against Sikorski, noting his reassignment to the Alternate Response Section pending the outcome of the internal review. COPA also verified its independent investigation.

Records from the city’s Office of Inspector General indicate Sikorski has been involved in 22 prior misconduct allegations during his tenure, with two being upheld.
