Tragic Incident at Hopkins Daycare

A tragic event occurred at a home daycare near Minneapolis, resulting in the death of three family members. The incident took place on Wednesday at the Brown Bear Daycare, located in Hopkins.

According to Hopkins Police Chief Brent Johnson, authorities were alerted to the situation around 9 a.m. A man, a woman, and a child were found deceased at the scene. Preliminary investigations suggest that this was a domestic-related homicide.

An eyewitness, a parent arriving to drop off a child, reportedly contacted the police about the situation. At the time of the incident, six other children were present in the daycare. Fortunately, they were unharmed and have since been reunited with their families.

“There’s no worse scenario than this, where you drop off your child to somewhere you think is safe, and you get that phone call,” stated Chief Johnson. He expressed that this tragedy resonates with parents and non-parents alike, emphasizing its impact not just locally but anywhere.

The Hopkins Police Department issued a follow-up statement confirming the absence of any ongoing threats or outstanding suspects, suggesting the event as an isolated one. Indicative statements pointed out that the deceased male was believed to be the perpetrator, and he took his own life.

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey offered condolences and support, highlighting the united response during crises. He remarked that the City of Minneapolis stands with Hopkins during this difficult time.

Additionally, Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty mentioned that her office is prepared to offer victim support services to those affected by this incident. The community remains in mourning as investigatory efforts continue.
