California authorities recently confiscated suspected cocaine worth over $800,000 during a traffic stop, as reported by officials. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) highlighted that a Central Division canine officer had halted a 2025 Honda CR-V in Merced County on August 12 due to an alleged traffic violation.
While conducting the stop, the officer noticed various signs indicating potential criminal involvement. Upon searching the vehicle, a bag with approximately 30 pounds of suspected cocaine was discovered. This discovery has an estimated street value of $817,200, according to CHP sources.
The driver was subsequently arrested and held at the Merced County Main Jail for charges linked to the possession and transportation of cocaine across non-contiguous counties.
The investigation is under the jurisdiction of the Merced Area Gang Narcotics Enforcement Team (MAGNET). This apprehension follows a significant bust by federal authorities in the previous month. More than 1,000 pounds of cocaine had been found hidden underneath a truck’s floorboards at the U.S.-Mexico border, one of this year’s largest drug seizures in Southern California.
The U.S. Justice Department stated that authorities discovered over half a ton of cocaine within the floorboards of a truck and flatbed trailer at the Calexico Port of Entry along the California-Mexico border. The estimated street value exceeded $20 million.
Additionally, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) last month disclosed the discovery of more than $3.7 million worth of cocaine in a cucumber shipment. CBP officers at Texas’s Pharr International Bridge found 112 packages inside a tractor-trailer after a thorough canine inspection and imaging scan revealed hidden anomalies. These packages contained 278.88 pounds of cocaine, with a street value approximating $3,723,654.
