Ukraine Launches Major Drone Attacks on Russia

On Sunday, Ukraine executed one of its largest aerial assaults in the ongoing war with Russia, deploying hundreds of drones that resulted in at least six fatalities. Russia’s Ministry of Defense announced the destruction of 822 Ukrainian drones overnight. Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin reported that approximately 600 drones were detected approaching the Russian capital, with a third neutralized over the Moscow area.

An incident in the Moscow region resulted in the death of an 83-year-old man when a Ukrainian drone struck a private residence, according to local Governor Andrey Vorobyov. Additionally, a Ukrainian attack ignited a fire at a warehouse owned by the Russian retail giant Wildberries in Podolsk. Russian media disseminated images showing heavy smoke emanating from the site.

In Russia’s southwestern Rostov region, a drone strike impacted three towns, causing five deaths. Local Governor Yury Slyusar confirmed the incident, which involved more than 150 drones, damaged several homes, a railway station, and ignited a forest fire.

Ukraine has increased its offensive on Russian soil this year, employing long-range missiles and drone swarms targeting military and energy sectors. Ukrainian forces also struck Wildberries depots, destroying goods worth billions, impacting the Russian populace over four years into Russia’s full-scale invasion.

Conversely, a Russian missile strike on Kryvyi Rih in Ukraine resulted in two deaths and 14 injuries, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. He also noted an additional casualty in Sumy. In Kyiv, a Russian attack caused multiple fires and injured six individuals. Zelenskyy emphasized that Russian forces consistently target civilian infrastructure with ballistic missiles, noting ongoing air raid alerts across various regions due to a fresh wave of drone attacks.
