The Potential Dangers of Developing Mirror Cells

Scientists have the ability to create mirror molecules in laboratories, yet the development of mirror cells is still at least ten years away. According to Mark Garlick of the Science Photo Library, the lab work is ongoing without immediate breakthroughs in mirror cells.

Human beings typically favor one hand over the other. On a molecular level, life on Earth is even more restrictive. DNA and proteins in all living things display specific handedness. DNA predominantly twists to the right while proteins exhibit left-handed chemistry.

The foundation of life is grounded in this unique chemistry. Recently, scientists have pursued the creation of a life form that mirrors these natural patterns. However, the current technological landscape does not support the cellular development of mirror life.

Despite being a distant possibility, some scientists express significant concerns regarding this research. A technical report comprised of 299 pages suggests that work on mirror cells should cease immediately due to the risks they may pose to life on Earth.
