150 Corgis Compete in International Race in Vilnius

The Corgi Race Vilnius 2026 celebrated more than the short-legged speed of 150 corgis. Held in Vingis park on Saturday, the event included a costume parade, a ‘smartest nose’ challenge, and a loudest bark contest. Organizers claim this was the largest event yet, with participants from nine countries, including Lithuania, Latvia, and the United States. The breed is famously linked to the late Queen Elizabeth II.

‘In the first year, we gathered 40 corgis from one city,’ said organizer Edvinas Mizkas. ‘This year, it’s 150 from nine countries, and for the first time, we have a participant from the breed’s homeland.’

The main event saw 94 dogs racing in qualifiers, semifinals, and a final over a 25-meter course. American corgi GG, short for Gustave the Girl Dog, won the final. Mr. Corgington, another U.S. contender, finished second, while Lithuania’s Moka, a two-time champion, came in third.

Aside from racing, the event showcased the dogs’ other skills. In the costume parade, 38 corgis strutted in diverse outfits. Amigo won over the jury and the public with a knight-like ensemble. In the ‘smartest nose’ challenge, Latvian corgis Tora and Rusty found hidden treats, sharing the victory.

The loudest bark competition brought additional excitement. Mr. Corgington, who had competed against GG previously in Washington, emerged victorious. His performance offered a rematch opportunity, and he traveled extensively as one of the farthest participants.

This year’s event introduced several newcomers, but six veterans, including Amigo, participated in every edition. The gathering highlighted the playful spirit and unique talents of corgis.
