The Cincinnati Bengals signed defensive back Ceyair Wright as an undrafted free agent in April. Wright, who played college football at Nebraska, found his passion for football intersecting with a different career path in acting. Recently, the Bengals reported that Wright left the team “to pursue other opportunities” and was placed on the Exempt/Left Squad list.
Ceyair Wright #1 of the Nebraska Cornhuskers is in action during the first half against the Maryland Terrapins at SECU Stadium in College Park, Md., on Oct. 11, 2025.
Dan Hoard, the radio voice of the Bengals, shared on social media platform X that Wright departed to explore television and film projects. Bengals head coach Zac Taylor commented on Wright’s decision, recognizing the dilemma faced by Wright as his two passions collided.
“I don’t know how to properly define it for him,” Taylor stated. “He called us last night and let us know that he had an opportunity. I know it was a difficult decision for him. I think two things he’s really passionate about were colliding, and he decided to pursue this opportunity. So, he’s a great kid, comes from a great university.”
Wright, known for his outgoing personality and hard work, was climbing the ranks as a Bengals player. Despite that, he opted to embrace his acting career. His acting credits include playing the role of LeBron James’ son in the movie “Space Jam: A New Legacy.” The Internet Movie Database (IMDb) also lists his work in “Training Day,” along with appearances in TV sitcoms like “Grown-ish” and “2 Broke Girls.”
The Bengals have signed Matthew McDoom as Wright’s replacement to fill the vacancy on their roster.
