Minnesota Attorney General Files Lawsuit Against Texas Governor Over Extradition Refusal

41 minutes ago 0

Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison recently announced legal action against Texas Governor Greg Abbott. The lawsuit claims Abbott is not cooperating in extraditing a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent accused of shooting an immigrant. This incident occurred during the Trump administration’s immigration crackdown, referred to as Operation Metro Surge.

The accused, Christian Castro, is currently detained in a Texas jail. The shooting took place in Minneapolis amid heightened tensions about immigration policies nationwide.

During a news conference in St. Paul, Ellison, alongside Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty, addressed the situation. Authorities in Minnesota are seeking to bring Castro back to face charges in their jurisdiction.

This case highlights ongoing debates and conflicts over state and federal roles in immigration enforcement. The refusal to extradite has led to increased scrutiny and tensions between Texas and Minnesota officials.
