Indiana Fever guard Kelsey Mitchell had a remarkable performance on Tuesday night, showcasing an impressive start with 16 points in the first quarter. She completed the game with a total of 29 points, helping the Fever secure a 101-95 victory over the Toronto Tempo. This win marked Indiana’s fifth consecutive triumph.
Caitlin Clark also played a vital role, adding 24 points to Indiana’s tally. Despite Mitchell sitting out the fourth quarter, the Fever maintained their winning momentum. Mitchell and Clark’s performance earned them a spot in the WNBA record book, achieving at least 20 points each in the same game 16 times during the season. This surpassed the previous record set by Diana Taurasi and Cappie Pondexter of the Phoenix Mercury in 2008.

Mitchell’s outstanding performance secured her position among the WNBA’s elite players. Her streak of scoring at least 20 points in 20 consecutive games matched the record set by four-time WNBA MVP A’ja Wilson. During the third quarter, Mitchell scored eight points rapidly, but she had to leave the game due to overheating, as explained by Fever head coach Stephanie White.
Aliyah Boston contributed with 16 points, while Sophie Cunningham made three successful three-point shots, adding 13 points to the team’s total. The Fever led the game throughout, clinching victory in 10 out of their last 12 games. Meanwhile, Toronto Tempo faced a setback, losing 11 matches in a row.
Marina Mabrey attempted to narrow the score gap for Toronto by hitting consecutive three-pointers, reducing the deficit to 97-93, yet the Tempo could not catch up.
During the Fever’s initial visit to Toronto, there was mixed audience reactions when Cunningham entered the arena, with cheers and boos resonating. Cunningham expressed her opposition to transgender girls and women participating in girls’ and women’s sports, as mentioned in an ESPN profile the previous month.
Late in the fourth quarter, support for transgender rights was evident when a banner was displayed on the video screen during a timeout, receiving cheers from the audience.
The Fever are set to travel to Dallas for their next game against the Wings on Thursday. The Tempo will face the Washington Mystics on Wednesday.
