Actor Jim Caviezel believes audiences are yearning for heroic figures as he prepares for his next movie role in Ghost Soldier. In this exclusive preview from Fox News Digital, Caviezel takes on the character of Henry “Fitz” Fitzgerald, a retired Special Forces soldier and weapons developer.
Film Synopsis and Character
The film follows Fitzgerald as he reluctantly returns to action to defend his hometown from a foreign corporation attempting to seize its land. Using his elite military training and advanced weaponry, he launches a solo campaign to safeguard his community. In the action-packed trailer, Caviezel depicts fierce protection of his community and its people.
Caviezel explained to Fox News Digital that audiences are eager for characters who embody values such as faith, duty, and personal responsibility. He drew parallels with the success of Sound of Freedom, highlighting the public’s desire for heroes who uphold truth.
People want to see someone do the right thing, with all the odds stacked against them. We saw this phenomenon with ‘Sound of Freedom’. Give them a hero who stands for what’s true and audiences show up. That hunger is still there,” Caviezel said.
Connection and Character Inspiration
Caviezel expressed a profound connection with Fitzgerald, describing him as a hero devoted to serving his country with unbreakable moral principles. He emphasized that Fitzgerald’s commitment to justice resonated deeply with him.
I connected with Fitz right away because he’s a hero. He’s a Green Beret who serves his country, and he lives by a moral code he won’t break,” he said. “He can’t walk away from an injustice, whatever it costs him. I love a good action film, too. But it was Fitz’s moral compass and his hunger for justice that made me say yes.
Career Insights and Sacrifices
Caviezel’s portrayal in roles, such as Jesus in The Passion of the Christ and Tim Ballard in Sound of Freedom, reflects characters who make sacrifices for their beliefs. He shared that taking on these roles illuminated the personal costs associated with doing the right thing.
I want to play men who’ll sacrifice for what they believe. That’s the measure of a man, and it’s the story I keep coming back to.
The Resurgence of Community Protection
Discussing a widespread resurgence in safeguarding home and community, Caviezel noted that Ghost Soldier resonates with this sentiment.
Most people resonate with protecting their home, family, and community because we were created with the instinct to protect what we love. Over the past few years, we’ve seen ordinary people standing up again, doing the right thing when it’s hard. That’s the resurgence I see, and this film speaks right to it.
Ghost Soldier featuring Caviezel, Olivia Thirlby, Beau Knapp, Garret Dillahunt, and Shea Whigham, will premiere on November 6.
