Adam Copeland and Christian Cage: AEW Tag Team Champions Journey

51 minutes ago 0

Adam Copeland and Christian Cage, once more tag team champions after 25 years, triumphed over FTR in an I Quit match at Double or Nothing. Their dominance in AEW’s tag team division continues as they defeat The Death Riders and The Dogs in separate contests. This winning streak represents the exact kind of experience Copeland sought upon joining All Elite Wrestling (AEW). He sought new challenges rather than nostalgia.

Copeland and Cage reunited during an AEW show in Cincinnati in August 2025. “The reason I joined AEW was to chase goals I still wanted to pursue,” Copeland shared with Fox News Digital. He emphasizes the importance of evolving as a team, given their shared career experiences. “We didn’t want to simply replicate our past,” he remarked. Their journey involved creating new identities rather than rehashing old ones.

They succeeded by inventing a finishing move. “We never had a finishing move. It’s insane,” Copeland noted, referencing their former illegal move, the concerto. This time, they tried a “pop-up spear” during their first match back after 15 years, successfully debuting it at London’s O2.

Now, Copeland and Cage prepare to face the Young Bucks, Matt and Nick Jackson, at All In with the AEW World Tag Team Championship at stake. Copeland views the Young Bucks as dream opponents and lists iconic wrestling spots like Arena México as locations he aspires to compete in.

Copeland emphasized, “The Young Bucks have been on my list since the reality of joining AEW became real.” Important teams like FTR and the Young Bucks were always in his plans. Reuniting with Cage was uncertain at first, leading them to thoughtfully integrate these matches into their narrative.

Their match with Mox helped reunite their team, with Cage losing the Casino Royale due to his selfishness. This emphasized the dynamic between the partners, showcasing Cage’s self-interest as a natural part of his character. Copeland describes this collaborative storytelling as fun and engaging, with creativity flourishing between them.

All In is scheduled for August 30 at London’s Wembley Stadium.
