Survivors Warn America About the Reality of Communist Regimes

1 month ago 0

When discussing free markets, Americans often turn to real-world outcomes and the opinions of economists. However, when radicals defend communism, they tend to overlook history and the firsthand experiences of those who lived under such regimes.

These omissions are not accidental. Survivors of communist states provide critical evidence of the consequences, highlighting what occurs when a government gains total power under the guise of public benefit.

Stories from Survivors

In a recent gathering at the Capitol, I listened to stories from individuals who escaped communist regimes. Their origins included Cuba, Venezuela, the Soviet Union, and China. Some endured torture in prisons. Others witnessed their communities decay as grocery shelves emptied. Schools were transformed into indoctrination centers and churches treated as state enemies.

The Warning

José Daniel Ferrer, who spent over 12 years in Cuban prisons, faced physical and psychological abuse, and saw citizens die from similar brutality and malnutrition. Ferrer shared insights on the deceptive tactics communists use to seize power. He emphasized that communist leaders often disguise their true intentions until power is secured.

For example, Fidel Castro and Hugo Chávez initially denied their communist affiliations before consolidating power. This pattern is evident among American politicians who self-identify as ‘Democratic Socialists.’ They argue their label distinguishes them from communism, yet they advocate for centralized economic and political power akin to historical communist movements.

The Reality of Communism

Advocates of communism tend to dismiss survivors’ testimonies, assigning blame to external factors such as sanctions, corruption, or foreign interference. These defenders argue the ideology is noble in theory, discounting the experiences of those affected.

Daniel Di Martino’s family experienced this deception in Venezuela. Pre-revolution, they enjoyed middle-class stability. Post-revolution, promises turned to rationing, empty shelves, and restricted food access. Milk disappeared, meat became scarce, and fingerprint scanning dictated grocery purchases.

This illustrates how communist control infiltrates everyday life, often without immediate military presence.

The Suppression of Institutions

According to Mike Gonzalez, communism doesn’t only regulate physical needs; it also attacks faith, conscience, and independent thought. He recounted harassment for church attendance and pressure to join communist youth groups in Cuba during the 1970s.

Communists aim to control educational and religious institutions because these bodies promote messages counter to state ideology. Religious freedom becomes a barrier to totalitarian control.

Anti-national sentiment is encouraged. Tradition and culture are portrayed as oppressive, making their dismantlement appear liberating.

The Fight Against Suppression

Pastor Ezra Jin’s story exemplifies faith suppression by communist regimes. Arrested with other church leaders in China, Jin faced a regime prioritizing party ideology over constitutional promises of religious freedom.

Despite his release, eight pastors remain incarcerated for worship outside party loyalty. Jin’s experience reveals the fragility of rights that only exist on paper.

Communism throughout its variants discredits limiting institutions. Economic freedom, education, religion, and speech are subjected. Noncompliance leads to punishment.

Survivors offer concrete evidence of these realities, contradicting abstractions touted by communism’s advocates. Observing these lived experiences reveals the persistent core demand for power.

We should critically evaluate ‘Democratic Socialists’ in America. Before accepting their promises, heed the stories of those who endured similar leadership elsewhere.
