Kacey Musgraves, a prominent country music star, recently sparked controversy by asking fans to donate to an immigrant children’s rights organization during her “Middle of Nowhere” tour. Musgraves made this appeal during her birthday celebration at the United Center in Chicago, where she encouraged donations to the Young Center for Immigrant Children’s Rights.
Musgraves addressed the crowd, emphasizing the need for legal aid and financial support for children whose parents face deportation. She stated, “It’s not a political thing. It’s just, these kids need help.” Despite cheers from the audience, her request led to online backlash, especially from conservative commentators.
Some critics questioned the notion of “unfair deportation,” while others criticized Musgraves for not using her own wealth to support the cause. Vince Langman, a conservative influencer, and others on social media voiced their disapproval and suggested boycotting her music.
The country star said the Young Center supports children “whose parents have been deported unfairly.”
In contrast, Musgraves’ supporters praised her compassion and emphasized the importance of aiding children in need. They argued that helping vulnerable children transcends politics.
Following the concert, Musgraves reiterated her support on social media and acknowledged the gratitude expressed by the Young Center. The nonprofit, based in Chicago, partners volunteers with professionals to advocate for immigrant children in custody. In 2024, the organization reported aiding 1,975 children from 53 countries.
Musgraves has previously supported the Young Center by selling pieces from her wardrobe to raise funds, and she invited a trio of young performers to open her Texas shows after their family’s release from custody.
Meanwhile, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) reported record levels of enforcement, with significant arrests in recent months. Federal sources told Fox News Digital that arrest numbers rose significantly in July.
The North American tour, with Midland as the opening act, began in Chicago and will continue through October.
