Bregman and Pete Crow-Armstrong became historic by combining for over 25 home runs, 25 walks, 50 RBIs, and 50 runs in a calendar month. This achievement had not been seen since the Yankees’ Roger Maris and Mickey Mantle in July 1961.
Monday night’s game was crucial for the Cubs, starting a 10-day stretch with seven significant matchups against the Brewers. Although the Cubs achieved record-breaking home runs, they finished the month with a 16-12 record, unable to close the gap with Milwaukee, who leads the division.
The Cubs’ once secure hold on a top wild-card spot in the NL has weakened. Recent struggles on a West Coast trip and a series loss to the Cincinnati Reds have been detrimental.
