Dabo Swinney, the head coach of the Clemson Tigers, expressed his dissatisfaction with the current dynamics of college football during a press conference. His remarks came as Clemson prepares to play against LSU.
Swinney described the situation as ’embarrassing,’ particularly criticizing programs like LSU for recruiting former NFL players ahead of the 2026 season. He took a pointed dig at Lane Kiffin, Clemson’s upcoming opponent.
“It’s kind of embarrassing,” Swinney remarked. “Honestly, it’s embarrassing that’s where we are. I don’t blame the kids, but people trying to take advantage of the system. It’s embarrassing, but we’ve been there for a while.”
He added, “No pun intended but we’re just going to stay in our lane.”
ESPN college football analyst Paul Finebaum, who seldom aligns with Swinney, found himself in agreement on this issue. He acknowledged the widespread consensus among those connected to the sport outside of Baton Rouge.
“I don’t think I’ve agreed with Dabo Swinney in ten years on anything,” Finebaum commented on “Get Up.” “He’s 100% right, and almost everyone in college football agrees with him that does not live in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.”
The much-anticipated match between Clemson and LSU is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. ET kickoff on Saturday.
