Amazon Cargo Plane Crash at Miami International Airport

An Amazon cargo plane crashed at Miami International Airport on Sunday. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) reported that Prime Air Flight 7598 overran the runway around 2 p.m. Eastern Time while landing after departing from San Juan, Puerto Rico.

According to local fire officials, there are “multiple patients” following the crash. It remains unclear if there were any fatalities. Social media videos show the Amazon Prime Air Boeing 767 off the runway with the tail over a fence, emitting thick black smoke.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue reported “multiple patients” and indicated that firefighters are actively working to extinguish the fire. Over 60 Miami-Dade Fire Rescue units responded to the scene.

The FAA is set to investigate the crash. According to the Miami-Dade Aviation Department, the cargo plane overran the diagonal runway and is now disabled at the northwest end of the airport.

All runways and taxiways at Miami International Airport were closed as of 3 p.m. The FAA issued a ground stop on planes until 3 p.m., which was later extended to 5:30 p.m. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy noted that the ground stop allowed first responders to evaluate the scene and warned travelers of potential delays and cancellations.

The plane was operated by the contract cargo carrier 21 Air, as confirmed by Amazon spokesperson Kelly Nantel. “This situation is rapidly evolving, and we are still assembling the details,” Nantel stated in a social media post. “Our priority is the safety and well-being of everyone affected. We are supporting those impacted in every way possible.”
