Kauai Residents Prepare for Hurricane Lowell

57 minutes ago 0

The residents of Kauai in Hawaii prepared for the arrival of Hurricane Lowell over the weekend. Despite the looming threat, many continued with their holiday plans. The hurricane, classified as a Category 3 storm, was expected to pass near the Hawaiian Islands by Monday evening.

Forecasters projected heavy rainfall with estimates ranging from two to 10 inches across the state. Some areas on Kauai and Hawaii’s Big Island could face isolated totals of up to 14 inches.

Lehua Lanning, celebrating her first child with a baby shower, chose to proceed with the event on Saturday evening. The gathering took place under an open-air pavilion at a beachside park. Around 100 guests enjoyed local dishes such as kalua pig and smoked meat, accompanied by reggae music.

“It was either now or never,” stated Ms. Lanning, noting her concern about her baby arriving during the storm.

By Sunday afternoon, rain had started to fall on Kauai. Officials urged residents to remain at home as the storm approached.
