Stefany Shaheen Celebrates Primary Win in New Hampshire’s 1st District

Stefany Shaheen, daughter of retiring Senator Jeanne Shaheen, secured victory in the Democratic primary for New Hampshire’s 1st Congressional District. The race drew significant attention with multiple Democratic candidates vying for the position.

Her success marks a crucial step for the Democrats as they aim to gain control of the House of Representatives. The incumbent, Rep. Chris Pappas, has chosen to run for the U.S. Senate instead, leaving the seat open.

Pappas, who has represented the district since 2019, announced his Senate bid last year. “I’m honored that the people of New Hampshire have entrusted me to fight for them,” Pappas stated. He emphasized his commitment to continue advocating for his constituents in the Senate.

“I’m honored that the people of New Hampshire have entrusted me to fight for them; I’m proud of what we have accomplished together and I’m going to continue this fight in the U.S. Senate,” Pappas said in a press release.

Pappas previously secured reelection with a 54.0% to 45.9% win against Russell Prescott. Several Democratic contenders entered the race to take over the open seat. Notable candidates included Maura Sullivan, a Marine veteran and former Obama administration official, along with Carleigh Beriont, a union organizer, and Christian Urrutia, an Army National Guard officer.

Senator Janine Shaheen endorsed her daughter Stefany. “I’m so proud that Stefany is answering the call to serve the district she was born and raised in,” she said. “She’s working hard to earn voters’ support on her own merits.” Stefany Shaheen’s platform highlights Medicare for All, tax breaks for first-time homebuyers, and reforms of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

Meanwhile, Maura Sullivan positioned herself as a seasoned veteran, citing her military service and her tenure in the Obama administration. She aims to combat price gouging, strengthen the VA, and boost federal investment in housing development.

With the primary behind her, Stefany Shaheen will proceed to the general election on November 3.
