Senate Republicans Invest in Texas Campaigns Ahead of Midterms

1 month ago 0

Top Senate Republicans are directing substantial funds to Texas in a bid to maintain control over a critical Senate seat as midterm elections approach.

The Senate Leadership Fund, a super PAC associated with Senate Majority Leader John Thune, is launching a new PAC in Texas. This initiative aims to provide financial support for Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, ensuring his success in the upcoming November elections.

Paxton faces strong opposition from Texas State Representative James Talarico. Republicans argue Talarico’s progressive stance is too extreme for the traditionally conservative state.

As the Democrat Party shifts further left, candidates like James Talarico are becoming more common,” mentioned Thune in a statement to Fox News Digital. “Republicans are committed to preventing him from joining the U.S. Senate, which is why I commend the Senate Leadership Fund’s efforts to keep Texas red.

During the conclusion of the Republican midterm convention in Dallas, Thune participated in a fundraiser supporting Paxton’s campaign, as reported to Fox News Digital by a confidential source.

The newly established PAC is preparing an initial substantial investment in advertising, set to begin the day after the convention ends. These ads are planned to air continuously through Election Day, promoting a favorable image of Paxton and contrasting his positions with those of Talarico.

The focus on the Texas Senate race highlights its importance as part of a broader strategy to energize the voting base of President Donald Trump across tightly contested races nationwide. Though initially, Senate Republican leaders backed Sen. John Cornyn, Trump’s endorsement of Paxton altered leadership dynamics, aligning backing behind Paxton’s candidacy.

Current public polls suggest a narrow lead for Talarico over Paxton. A recent Fox News poll indicated a 51%-48% edge favoring Talarico.

This race is significant among a dozen contests determining control over the Senate majority.

The Texas PAC’s launch follows a similar move by MAGA, Inc., linked to President Trump, with a $10 million ad spending commitment to bolster Paxton.

Talarico’s campaign has a financial advantage, amassing over $72 million, compared to approximately $17 million secured by Paxton. This discrepancy is evident in federal records.

Paxton, in an interview with Fox News’ Bret Baier, noted a fundraising gap due to a prolonged primary campaign, limiting his financial resources relative to Talarico.

Talarico had additional months for fundraising and expenditure restraint,” Paxton remarked. “So he commenced ad campaigns earlier, positioning himself as a moderate Democrat. My ads are now starting, distinguishing a constitutional Republican from a socialist; we aim to convey that message effectively.
