T-Rex Burger Returns to Wendy’s: An Unofficial Secret Menu Challenge Resurfaces

20 hours ago 0

A legendary Wendy’s burger, long thought extinct, has reemerged. Known as the T-Rex burger, it packs 3,000 calories and is priced close to $30. The Edmond, Oklahoma, franchise has revived this challenge, daring customers to tackle the towering nine-patty cheeseburger with all the fixings in nine minutes. Completion earns a T-shirt and a special prize, as noted by Allrecipes.

The burger is now priced at $29.99, as displayed in a sign posted on Reddit in early September. The sign provocatively asks, “Think you can take down the T-Rex? Prove it.”

“Gross. Dumb,” remarked a blunt Reddit user. Another chimed in, “The prize is high cholesterol and clogged arteries.” Some even joked it’s a recipe for a “heart attack.”

Commenters on Reddit reacted diversely to this nine-patty, 3,000-calorie creation, reportedly exclusive to an Oklahoma Wendy’s. Some were amused by the idea, predicting founder Dave Thomas would disapprove.

While many were skeptical, others were eager to accept the challenge. “Pretty decent deal actually,” said one optimist.

Lauren Manaker, a dietitian from South Carolina, explained to Fox News Digital that this burger is an experience rather than a nutritional choice. Consuming such a meal is likely to involve substantial sodium, saturated fats, and calories.

“If trying it for fun, share it, eat slowly, and balance the day with water, fruits, and vegetables,” she suggested.

An employee at the Edmond location noted that the special prize is expected to include a voucher for a free meal starting Sept. 10. Participants in the challenge aren’t required to finish accompanying fries and drinks.

The T-Rex’s history dates back to the mid-2000s, gaining notoriety when it appeared jokingly in Sports Illustrated. Its first rendition was in Brandon, Manitoba, Canada. This became a viral moment, but Wendy’s corporate curtailed the offering, citing health concerns.

“Wendy’s neither condones nor promotes consuming a nine-patty hamburger,” stated an employee. Yet, social media kept the burger alive as a secret hack. Customers recreate it by ordering a Dave’s Triple with six extra patties.

An official comment from Wendy’s corporate headquarters in Ohio is pending. Meanwhile, the T-Rex challenge persists as a quirky, calorie-laden test of gastronomic endurance.
