Rob Reiner Wins Posthumous Emmy

Emmy voters recently honored Rob Reiner posthumously by awarding him the Emmy for best guest actor in a comedy series for his role in “The Bear.” Reiner’s win comes nearly one year after his passing. His victory in this category sets a new record, with a 48-year gap between his first Emmy win for “All in the Family” and this latest accolade. This record surpasses that of his father, Carl Reiner.

In “The Bear,” Rob Reiner portrayed Albert Schnurr, a restaurant consultant. The award was announced at the Creative Arts Emmy ceremony held on September 6. Wendi McLendon-Covey accepted the award on Reiner’s behalf, with reports of a standing ovation from the audience.

Reiner’s win marks the first posthumous Emmy for an on-camera performance since Raúl Juliá’s recognition in 1995 for “The Burning Season.” Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, tragically passed away in December at their Los Angeles home.

New Inductees to the TV Academy Hall of Fame

The Television Academy Hall of Fame has welcomed new members, including Trey Parker and Matt Stone of “South Park,” late CBS News broadcaster Ed Bradley, actors Ted Danson and Jean Smart, documentary producer Sheila Nevins, and Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos.

During his acceptance speech, Parker expressed gratitude to “South Park” fans, noting the support of people who appreciate balanced perspectives and question extremes.

Emmys Ceremony and Network Achievements

This year, the Emmys are airing on NBC, marking the 26th time the network hosts the ceremony, the most by any network. NBC is celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2026, having made significant contributions to television history, including airing pivotal programs like “Seinfeld,” “Friends,” and “Will & Grace.”

NBC also introduced “Saturday Night Live” in 1975, which has become a cultural staple with a record 94 Emmy wins.
