Passenger Jumps Overboard on Carnival Panorama Cruise

A passenger on the Carnival Panorama cruise ship jumped overboard as the vessel approached the end of a week-long trip. The cruise began in Long Beach, California, on September 13 and was returning from Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, when the incident occurred.

Carnival Cruise Line confirmed that a male passenger had jumped overboard. The company spokesperson stated, “Carnival Cruise Line confirmed Saturday that a male guest aboard Carnival Panorama jumped overboard while the ship was sailing from Puerto Vallarta, Mexico to Long Beach, California.”

Upon notification of a missing passenger, the ship’s crew began search and investigation efforts. This included reviewing CCTV footage and informing both U.S. and Mexico Coast Guards. The cruise line is supporting the family of the missing passenger, expressing their thoughts and prayers.

Reports from a Reddit user, who claimed to be on the cruise, mentioned announcements about a missing guest started around 11 a.m. on Saturday. The ship had left Puerto Vallarta at 8 p.m. on Thursday. Announcements for the missing passenger were repeated over several hours, prompting a search of the vessel.

At approximately 3 p.m., the ship reportedly changed course. An announcement was made at 3:30 p.m. for a shipwide search, with guests asked to return to their staterooms. Security personnel then scanned passengers’ ship identification cards, a routine measure in such instances.

Around 5 p.m., the captain and cruise director confirmed the passenger had gone overboard after reviewing camera footage. Local authorities were set to continue the search and rescue efforts, allowing guests to leave their staterooms.

The missing passenger’s family and companions were informed and offered support from the company’s care team. At around 7 p.m., it was announced the ship was expected to reach Long Beach by 9 a.m.
