Deputies in California are actively searching for a man identified as Derek Spencer, aged 44, believed to be armed and dangerous. Authorities allege he committed murder and fired at others. According to the Placer County Sheriff’s Office, Spencer faces several felony charges, including pointing a firearm at individuals in Placer County.
Earlier on a Sunday, deputies encountered Spencer in the Iowa Hill area. During the interaction, Spencer allegedly rammed a patrol vehicle before escaping, leading to an ongoing manhunt.
Reports indicate Spencer also fired shots at law enforcement officers and helicopters assisting in the operation. Fortunately, no officers were injured during the pursuit.
“Everyone in the Iowa Hill area is urged to lock their doors and remain inside,” the sheriff’s office advised.
As of Sunday night, the search continued, presenting challenges due to the area’s size, dense forest, and rugged terrain.
During the search, deputies discovered a woman’s body inside a home Spencer reportedly visited. Authorities suggest he might have killed the woman before escaping into the forest.
The search involves multiple law enforcement agencies working in tandem to locate Spencer. The sheriff’s office assures the public that the search will persist through the night with undiminished effort.
Spencer has been described as bald with a goatee. Residents are encouraged to remain vigilant and exercise caution.
