Harris Discusses Potential 2028 Presidential Run

During a conversation with NAACP leaders in Detroit on Tuesday, Kamala Harris addressed the topic of a possible 2028 presidential run. The discussion centered on the necessity of political action in the immediate future. Harris emphasized the importance of the upcoming midterm elections, saying they must be prioritized before contemplating the 2028 presidential campaign.

When asked directly about her intention to run in 2028, Harris replied that she has not yet made a decision. She expressed a strong belief that enduring the challenges of 2026 is crucial for the prospects of a future presidential bid.

The event took place during Harris’ visit to Detroit, where she stressed the significance of voter participation in the 2026 elections. Her remarks highlighted the potential pitfalls of focusing solely on distant goals while neglecting immediate issues.

The fireside chat was the second event Harris attended on Tuesday, facilitated by Rev. Dr. Wendell Anthony and Rev. Dr. Genetta Y. Hatcher. Before discussing the 2028 campaign possibilities, Anthony encouraged attendees to engage in voting, emphasizing methods such as early and mail-in voting.

Harris also received merchandise promoting voter participation. Earlier in the day, she campaigned with Michigan Democratic Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed at a roundtable focusing on Black maternal health and healthcare expenses. Harris used the session to criticize former President Trump’s healthcare policies and express her support for El-Sayed.

Harris’ current focus is the 2026 midterms, which she regards as a stepping stone to a potential future White House bid. Following Joe Biden’s decision to end his re-election campaign, Harris became the Democratic presidential nominee in 2024, ultimately losing to Donald Trump.
