The White House has not confirmed the reason for the early return. However, it coincided with an escalation in the Middle East, involving Houthi rebels claiming responsibility for attacks on Saudi Arabia’s capital, Riyadh. The recent developments in the Middle East involve Yemen’s Houthi rebels targeting Saudi Arabia. They claimed strikes on energy facilities and the capital using drones and ballistic missiles, causing disruptions at Riyadh airport. FlightRadar24 indicated numerous delays on Saturday.
The Houthi military carried out attacks using ballistic and cruise missiles and drones against the Saudi capital and Saudi Aramco’s facilities.
Yahya Sarea, Houthi military spokesman, provided this information via Telegram. The U.S. State Department noted that Iranian-supported Houthis targeted civilian airports and warned of quick escalation.
Airspace Breach Near Camp David
Another reason for Trump’s early departure involved an airspace breach near Camp David. According to the Defense Visual Information Distribution Service (DVIDS), an F-16 fighter jet from NORAD intercepted a general aviation aircraft over Thurmont, Maryland, at about 7:50 a.m. EDT on September 19, 2026. The NORAD jet used flares to gain the pilot’s attention, and the aircraft was safely escorted away.
