Tragic Shooting in Detroit: Three Killed, Four Injured at After-Hours Venue

Early on Sunday, a shooting occurred at an after-hours venue on Detroit’s west side, resulting in three fatalities and four injuries. Police Chief Todd Bettison stated the venue was known to authorities. Officers responded to a ShotSpotter alert at approximately 7:20 a.m. local time, finding three men dead from gunshot wounds. Four others, comprising two men and two women, suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to hospitals.

During a scene press conference, Bettison assured, “We will work this around the clock relentlessly to bring the perpetrator to justice.” Alongside the Chief were Mayor Mary Sheffield, City Council President James Tate, and other community leaders.

“This is absolutely heartbreaking,” Sheffield remarked, condemning the violence as “senseless.” She vowed to crack down on illegal after-hours operations, aiming to prevent similar incidents.

On Sunday, Bettison highlighted the broader impact of gun violence, pledging support for victims’ families while pursuing those responsible. “I did meet some of the family members before I briefed the press,” he said, offering continued thoughts and prayers.

Sheffield encouraged information sharing from the community and promised robust support services for those affected by the tragedy.

Who Were the Victims?

Police reported that the three deceased were adult males, around 30 years old or older. Authorities have not yet released their identities, pending relative notification. The surviving victims included two men and two women. Bettison mentioned one woman in her 20s and the injured men in their 20s and 30s.

The shooting site had previously attracted police attention. Bettison shared that “seven calls of service” had been recorded at the address this year. Describing the venue as an “after-hours location” akin to a strip club, he disclosed an ongoing investigation into the premises but withheld specific details. “Regardless of what we find in this particular location, no one is supposed to lose their life and be wounded by gun violence,” he stated firmly.
