ABC Faces Criticism After Ana Navarro’s Remarks on ‘The View’

ABC is encountering backlash following remarks by Ana Navarro, co-host of ‘The View’, who encouraged viewers to support a Democrat in a crucial Florida congressional race. The race in question involves incumbent Rep. Maria Elvira Salazar, a Republican from Florida, competing against Democratic candidate Elliott Rodriguez in Florida’s 27th district.

Navarro expressed surprise over the competitiveness of the race, noting her district has historically favored Republicans. Salazar drew attention with her recent ad criticizing President Donald Trump’s immigration policies. Despite winning by 20 points in the past, recent polls suggest the race is tightly contested.

I had taken for granted this race because she won two years ago by 20 points. And this is a district Donald Trump won by 15 points… but polls have her dead even, Navarro said. So, anybody who lives in Coral Gables, in Miami, in Key Biscayne, in downtown Miami, pay attention to that race and go vote because it’s going to matter. And we can actually knock this woman out. There’s a great guy running. His name is Elliott Rodriguez. Give him a look!

Critics have accused ABC of engaging in electioneering, questioning if Navarro’s comments breach broadcast licensing rules. Ben Domenech and David Bozell, among others, expressed their disapproval, with some suggesting ABC’s license should be revoked.

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has been monitoring ‘The View’, debating whether such programs qualify as ‘bona fide news’. This designation would exempt them from equal time requirements for political candidates.

Navarro is known for her outspoken political views, particularly her criticism of former President Trump. She also participated as a host at the 2024 Democratic National Convention.
