Case Keenum, the 38-year-old quarterback, delivered a stellar performance, guiding the Chicago Bears to a 27-7 victory against the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday night. Despite it being his first start since Week 16 of the 2023 season, Keenum executed head coach Ben Johnson’s offense flawlessly, showcasing his ability before NFL fans and his family.

Keenum’s impressive display suggests to the Bears that they shouldn’t rush Caleb Williams, the franchise quarterback, back into action. Williams is considered the Bears’ best shot at reaching the Super Bowl, but Keenum’s performance showed the team has capable backup options.

On the depth chart, Keenum stands as the third-string quarterback, with Tyson Bagent typically backing up Williams. Bagent was cleared from concussion protocol for this game but entered as Keenum’s backup, illustrating Johnson and the Bears’ confidence in Keenum’s abilities.
Johnson initiated the game with simple passes to ease Keenum into rhythm. Yet, Keenum soon advanced to leading an 11-play drive, culminating in Luther Burden III catching his first touchdown of the season. From this point, Keenum consistently delivered precise passes and accurate pre-snap adjustments.

The Bears operated a straightforward run game, bringing in D’Andre Swift, avoiding unnecessary pressure on Keenum. This approach handed Nick Sirianni and the unbeaten Eagles their first loss of season.
Keenum concluded the game, completing 24 out of 34 passes for 247 yards, amassing two touchdowns alongside his first rushing touchdown since 2019, sealing the win with a quarterback sneak on third-and-goal.
Johnson’s offensive strategy proved effective again; however, Keenum’s execution was crucial. His performance suggested the offense could remain steady while Williams recovers. With Williams managing a tricky injury, caution appears wise to avoid further aggravation.
The Bears prepared to face the New York Jets at home in Week 4, comforted by Keenum’s leadership. Meanwhile, Jalen Hurts of the Eagles completed 16 of 25 passes for 153 yards with a rushing touchdown and an interception. The Eagles aimed to regroup against the 1-2 Los Angeles Rams in the upcoming week.
