An incident occurred during the Sacramento Kings Media Day that has led to a flurry of online speculation. Reporters were caught in a hot mic moment, leading fans to attempt to identify the voices involved. This resulted in the misidentification and doxxing of several individuals, including Tristi Rodriguez, a digital content producer for NBC Sports Bay Area and California.
On Friday, Rodriguez addressed the situation on social media, clarifying that she was not involved. She stated, “The past few days have been tough. I got dragged into something that had nothing to do with me, and I watched my name and reputation be tarnished across the internet. To be very clear – that was not my voice at Kings Media Day.”
The pursuit to identify the three voices, which involved two women and one man rating the attractiveness of players Ben Simmons and Zach LaVine, led to several reporters being targeted and harassed.
Rodriguez further expressed her frustration, “I want to clear my name, not for the trolls who have flooded my mentions and DMs with horrific messages, but for myself.” She also extended her thanks to those who supported her during this turbulent period, saying, “Thank you to those who know me and know my professionalism and immediately knew that wasn’t me. Your messages, support, and love have gone a long way over these extremely dark days.”
Rodriguez regularly covers the Kings, Golden State Warriors, and the San Francisco 49ers.
