1 hour ago 0

Former Vice President Kamala Harris has left open the possibility of a 2028 White House bid, but Democratic senators are not yet committing to support her as the party’s 2024 nominee.

I’ve backed her before, but there’ll be other contenders this time, stated Sen. Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn. He noted that he has not made any decision regarding his support.

Sen. Elissa Slotkin, D-Mich., added that the upcoming presidential primary would be expansive and competitive, potentially involving multiple candidates.

Sen. Chris Coons, D-Del., mentioned that the focus on who will run should come after the midterms.

Harris recently joined Michigan Democratic Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed on the campaign trail. Although Harris has not yet revealed her intentions for a 2028 presidential bid, she emphasized the importance of achieving success in the upcoming elections for 2026.

Sen. Angela Alsobrooks, D-Md., expressed her commitment to regaining control of the House and Senate in 2026. She praised Kamala Harris’s qualifications and her personal connection with her.

During a Get Out the Vote rally in New York City, Sen. Bernie Sanders, alongside Mayor Zohran Mamdani, supported candidates Brad Lander, Claire Valdez, and Darializa Avila Chevalier.

Sen. Ed Markey, D-Mass., echoed the sentiment for allowing all willing candidates to run, highlighting democratic principles.

Potential contenders for 2028 include prominent political figures like Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who is aligned with the party’s progressive wing.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom also emerged as a possible candidate, though he previously stated he would abstain from running if Harris decided to enter the race.

Sen. Jeanne Shaheen, D-N.H., advocated for a broad candidate field to ensure varied discussions about the nation’s future.

A poll by the University of New Hampshire found Ocasio-Cortez leading the prospective 2028 Democratic primary field in New Hampshire with 22% support among likely voters, while Harris garnered 5%. Both Harris and Ocasio-Cortez have yet to announce any official campaign.
