Call for Federal Investigations

Attorneys have urged federal watchdogs to initiate detailed investigations into the prosecution of former Olympian David Hearn. A judge recently cleared Hearn of charges related to damaging the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool. They request the Departments of Justice and Interior’s inspectors general to conduct coordinated and independent probes into his arrest and prosecution.

A 21-page letter obtained by Newsweek reveals the call for these inquiries. It targets the actions of employees from both departments, stating they deprived Hearn of his liberty and defamed his reputation.

Prosecution and Case Dismissal

The Department of Justice and Department of the Interior are accused of wrongful arrest and public defamation to conceal their flawed renovation. According to Hearn’s attorneys, federal officials aggressively pursued the case. They demand accountability for the mishandling of his indictment and arrest.

Judge Todd Edelman dismissed the case against Hearn after prosecutors admitted the damage resulted from installation errors, not vandalism. Hearn faced serious legal threats, including a potential prison sentence.

Evidence Mismanagement

The attorneys call for scrutiny of the indictment process, questioning why it proceeded despite evidence of construction flaws. They challenge the actions of U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro and other officials involved in pushing the indictment.

The case was dropped after the Department of Interior presented new evidence absolving Hearn of responsibility. Pirro conceded the damage was caused by a contractor’s rushed work ahead of a major celebration in Washington.

Hearn’s Response

David Hearn described the dismissal as a triumph for democracy. He emphasized the wide support from his community and legal team. He stressed the importance of vigilance against power abuses.
