Rep. Ilhan Omar’s Immigration and Financial Records Under Investigation

2 hours ago 0

Recent events have brought renewed attention to Rep. Ilhan Omar’s immigration history. Federal agents searched the Washington, D.C. home of Omar, a Democrat from Minnesota, intensifying scrutiny surrounding her immigration and financial records. New reports indicate that subpoenas have been issued to her relatives, examining potential fraud and false statements in immigration paperwork. The New York Times reported that Omar’s sister and at least one other family member have been subpoenaed.

On a separate note, Fox News learned that multiple family members received subpoenas. The New York Post noted that Omar’s staff had requested a change in her listed birth year, from 1981 to 1982, in public biographies. This discrepancy has been questioned by a former political opponent, leading to challenges of Omar’s citizenship account.

Homeland Security Investigations agents searched her D.C. home, as part of a criminal investigation into her immigration paperwork. The Justice Department verified that a judicially authorized search warrant was executed. Omar firmly denied any immigration misconduct, attributing it to political attacks by the Trump administration.

Emails reviewed revealed that in May 2019, Omar’s staff contacted the Minnesota Legislative Reference Library to correct her birth year. The library’s original entry lacked supporting documentation, sparking further interest in the change although it didn’t prompt the search.

Omar became a U.S. citizen before turning 18 through her father’s naturalization. AJ Kern, a previous competitor, questioned if Omar was a minor during her father’s citizenship approval. Her Federal Election Commission complaint and lawsuit were dismissed.

Investigators are reviewing if Omar’s father misstated information on immigration forms. Although subpoenas could suggest evidence collection, it does not imply wrongdoing. Past inquiries into Omar’s immigration by federal agencies have not led to charges.

In addition to immigration concerns, U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro announced investigations into Omar’s financial disclosures. Discrepancies were reported between 2023 and 2024 filings related to her husband’s businesses. Amended disclosures showed corrections to include liabilities, with Congress dismissing misconduct allegations in a separate review.

The financial inquiry remains undisclosed whether it connects to the recent investigation. President Trump voiced skepticism, seeking clarity on Omar’s financial filings. Vice President JD Vance reserved judgment pending further findings.

A formal response from the Justice Department, Omar’s office, and involved parties is pending. These developments underscore ongoing federal interest in Omar’s background.
