Kansas City Chiefs Eye Jerry Jeudy Amid Injuries

1 hour ago 0

The Kansas City Chiefs are facing challenges with their wide receiver lineup due to injuries. Tyquan Thornton, their second-leading receiver, suffered a severe ankle injury against the Las Vegas Raiders. His recovery will likely keep him out for the remainder of the season. Rashee Rice is dealing with hamstring and knee issues, and both Jeff Caldwell and Jimmy Holiday have been on injured reserve since August.

Currently, the healthy wide receivers on the Chiefs’ roster are Xavier Worthy, Jalen Royals, Cyrus Allen, and Nikko Remigio. Worthy has 14 catches for 133 yards and one touchdown, while Royals has three catches for 17 yards and one touchdown. Allen and Remigio have yet to record a catch this season. This situation has led Kristopher Knox from Bleacher Report to suggest that the Chiefs should consider strengthening their wide receiver position.

Knox pointed to disgruntled Cleveland Browns receiver Jerry Jeudy as a potential acquisition for the Chiefs. He proposed that the Chiefs could trade a conditional 2027 fifth-round pick for Jeudy. Knox referenced NFL insider Jordan Schultz, who stated that Jeudy is known to be available for trade. Schultz indicated that the Browns prefer a third or fourth-round pick in return, though securing such a trade might be challenging.

Jeudy, now 27, had a standout season two years ago, making the Pro Bowl with 1,229 yards. However, he has struggled recently due to the emergence of other receivers like Concepcion and Boston, as well as tight end Harold Fannin Jr. His current base salary of $1.5 million makes him an attractive option for teams managing budget constraints.

This season, Jeudy has only eight catches for 81 yards in five games, partly due to limited targets. Transitioning to the Chiefs could increase his opportunities significantly. In Kansas City, Jeudy would offer quarterback Patrick Mahomes a reliable big-play threat, a role vacated when Tyreek Hill was traded. His addition could address the urgent need for a consistent pass-catching option in the Chiefs’ offensive strategy.
