The recent game between the Buffalo Bills and the Los Angeles Rams ended in unexpected tension when Rams offensive lineman Alaric Jackson threw a punch at Bills edge rusher Bradley Chubb. The altercation stemmed from a heated exchange between the two players.
As a result of his actions, Jackson is set to miss the Rams’ upcoming Week 6 game against the Arizona Cardinals. Initially, the NFL imposed a two-game suspension on Jackson, but it was later shortened to one game.
Such incidents are rare, especially since the Rams and the Bills lack a history of rivalry. Yet, comments made by Chubb after the game provide some context for the conflict.
During a press conference on Wednesday, Chubb clarified the situation, denying rumors that he insulted Jackson’s family. “I’ve heard I was talking about his mom,” Chubb stated, according to ESPN’s Sarah Barshop. “That’s not true at all. I said: ‘We’re gonna see y’all’s a** again. And when we see you again, all that chipping ain’t gonna save you. That tight end and guard is not going to save you.’ He said, ‘What’d you say?’ I said, ‘That chip’s not gonna save you. The guard’s not gonna save you.’ And then boom.”
If these two teams meet again this season, it would have to be during Super Bowl LXI, should both make it there. The Bills appear to be strong contenders in the AFC, whereas the Rams face uncertainty in clinching an NFC spot. Yet, a rematch could potentially offer another thrilling game.
Meanwhile, the Rams aim to recover in their matchup against the Arizona Cardinals, while the Bills prepare to continue their winning streak against the Las Vegas Raiders this Sunday.
