In a serious development early Friday, Lt. Gen. Vladimir Alekseyev, a high-ranking official within the Russian military intelligence, was shot and subsequently hospitalized. According to authorities, the incident occurred within a residential building in the northwest area of Moscow. An unidentified assailant reportedly carried out the attack and then escaped the scene, as stated by Russia’s Investigative Committee.
The shooting has prompted investigators to launch a criminal inquiry, involve eyewitnesses, and scrutinize surveillance footage to uncover details about the attack. However, officials have not disclosed specific information regarding Alekseyev’s current health status nor have they identified any suspects who may be responsible for the assault.
“The alleged shooter fled from the scene,” the official statement asserted.
This worrying event takes place just a little over a month after another senior military officer, Lt. Gen. Fanil Sarvarov, tragically lost his life in a similar violent incident. Sarvarov was killed when a bomb placed under his car detonated, also in Moscow.
As investigations continue, the situation remains fluid, with authorities working diligently to solve these troubling attacks on high-ranking military personnel.
This is a developing story. Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
