LSU is on a bye this week as the No. 15 Tigers prepare to face No. 10 Alabama on November 7. This annual rivalry between the Crimson Tide and LSU draws significant attention in college football, often earning a primetime slot. However, this year’s matchup is scheduled for a 3:30 p.m. ET start at Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge.
At a news conference on Wednesday, LSU head coach Lane Kiffin shared his dissatisfaction with the decision to hold the game during the day. He suggested that the SEC might have intentionally scheduled it in the afternoon to benefit Alabama, as night games at Tiger Stadium are challenging for visiting teams.
Kiffin remarked, “I was like, well, if someone thinks the SEC wants us to win this year after what’s been going on, they must have just been on Mars the last four months.” He added, “Especially in 16 years, this game has been at night here all the time. I never even considered that it wouldn’t be at night. So I guess that’s probably naive of me.”
His comments arise amid tension between LSU and the conference, connected to a controversy involving players courted by the Tigers before the season despite having spent time with NFL clubs. The outcome of the upcoming LSU-Alabama matchup holds significant weight for the SEC championship and College Football Playoff.
Despite not being a night game, Tiger Stadium is expected to be roaring when Alabama arrives. Historically, Alabama has dominated, winning the last three encounters and 13 of the past 15 meetings. LSU’s most recent home victory over Alabama was in 2022, a thrilling 32-31 overtime win.
