Tensions Rise at California Track Meet Involving Trans Athlete

3 weeks ago 0

A clash occurred between “Save Girls Sports” activists and pro-LGBTQ groups outside a championship track event in California. The situation required intervention from police officers. The event was linked to trans athlete AB Hernandez, competing at the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) state championship in Clovis, aiming for titles in three girls’ jumping events.

The press conference, organized by local LGBTQ groups Pride at the Pier and Rainbow Families Action, featured Hernandez’s mother, Nereyda Hernandez, and other supporters speaking on behalf of the athlete.

Near the conclusion of the gathering, “Save Girls Sports” activists arrived, sparking a heated verbal exchange with LGBTQ participants. Clovis Police Department vehicles were present, and several officers monitored the situation. However, the confrontation ended without any need for police intervention. The police department did not provide comments.

“I just wanted to share my signs… and just talk about how not only is this unfair to the girls competing in sports, but it’s also unfair to the athlete, to AB Hernandez, to lie to him about his biological reality,”

stated Beth Bourne, who led the counterprotest and spoke with Fox News Digital.

In response, pro-LGBTQ activist Daisy Gardner addressed Bourne:

“I hope that she is able to learn and educate and open up her heart and heal with her family,”

she said.

The controversy surrounding Hernandez’s participation has again overshadowed this year’s CIF state finals. The previous year’s event also saw protests, resulting in one pro-transgender activist’s arrest for allegedly assaulting a “Save Girls Sports” activist.

Reporter Jackson Thompson covered the event, focusing on the intersection of politics and cultural issues in sports. His work has been cited in significant media outlets and governmental actions related to Title IX enforcement.
