Representative Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, recently took a call from a Fox News Digital reporter while heading to the airport with his wife. This moment reflects the demanding schedule of the House Judiciary Committee chairman. Jordan’s recent weeks have involved constant travel across the United States campaigning for fellow Republican lawmakers.
House Republicans’ senior leadership is actively traveling nationwide to garner support and funds for the upcoming Tuesday midterm elections. Jordan, though not part of the leadership trio, maintains a similar busy schedule. Sometimes they’re fundraisers, sometimes they’re rallies, and sometimes both,
Jordan said. We’re doing everything to help our team win, because if Democrats take power, my concern is about what they’ll do to our government.
JORDAN ON THE MOVE
According to a source familiar with Jordan’s travel schedule, he has visited 115 districts in 34 states during this election cycle. This includes a continuous 19-day journey leading up to November 3 in states such as Washington, Oregon, Texas, Arkansas, Florida, Illinois, and South Carolina. Despite diverse locations, Jordan’s message consistently emphasizes Republican tax cuts and border security, warning that Democrats could worsen these issues.
We understand costs are high, and we’re addressing that. But remember, much of it is due to the Biden administration’s inflation. We’re bringing it down but continue recognizing costs, working to improve it,
he explained.
TRAVEL CHALLENGES
Though not a member of leadership, Jordan does not benefit from charter flights and police escorts. While he occasionally flies privately, most travel involves commercial airlines and long drives. Despite this, he remains productive, engaging with colleagues through calls and texts. His travel playlist features country star Glen Campbell, but he spends travel time discussing campaign strategies with staff.
Financially, Jordan has been instrumental. He raised $1.97 million for Republicans nationwide and donated $2.65 million to the House GOP campaign arm, highlighting his commitment to supporting his party amid predictions of Democrats taking control.
PARTY UNITY
Jordan plays a crucial role in unifying conservatives and moderates. Known for his high-profile presence, he’s an effective draw, as one lawmaker observed. In Gastonia, Rep. Tim Moore, R-N.C., witnessed a successful fundraiser with nearly 300 attendees, thanks to Jordan’s influence. Moore described the event as well-attended with substantial funds raised.
Jordan has shifted from his anti-establishment roots to fostering party unity. His work with different Republican factions shows readiness for collaborative efforts. A Republican source described him as a mentor to various party members, with Jordan offering support to both moderates and conservatives.
FUTURE ASPIRATIONS
Speculation surrounds Jordan’s future leadership ambitions. Should Republicans lose the House majority, he is expected to seek the minority leader role. Yet, Jordan remains focused on the present election, dismissing speculation about future leadership plans.
