Terry Bradshaw, known as the Blonde Bomber during his playing days, threw metaphorical shade at the Buffalo Bills during a segment on Fox NFL Sunday. Bradshaw, a former NFL quarterback and current sports analyst, discussed the upcoming AFC matchup between the Buffalo Bills and Baltimore Ravens.
During the discussion, Bradshaw noted the excitement around the game, referencing a previous tight contest between the teams, which Buffalo won 41-40. He highlighted the presence of two great quarterbacks in the matchup.
“You’ve got two great quarterbacks, all right?” he remarked, reflecting on the past high-scoring game.
Bradshaw elaborated on his analysis by praising the offensive talent but criticized the Bills’ defense. He mentioned James Cook for Buffalo and Derrick Henry for Baltimore and noted the offensive capabilities despite Lamar Jackson’s injury issues.
Bradshaw bluntly assessed the quality of both teams’ defenses, especially Buffalo’s.
“Buffalo’s defense is horrible,” he stated while looking directly at the camera. “And with Lamar Jackson back, I expect him to throw the football, play action, even though Lamar has a bad ankle. This game’s gonna be fun to watch.”
Bradshaw’s pointed criticism centered on the belief that a strong defense is essential to winning the Super Bowl.
“If you don’t have a great defense, you’re not going to win a Super Bowl,” he concluded. “Buffalo, fun to watch, but they’re not gonna win a Super Bowl.”
The history of the NFL supports Bradshaw’s assertion. No team has won the Super Bowl while ranking in the bottom three for points allowed in the regular season. The worst defensive ranking for a Super Bowl-winning team was the 2011 New York Giants, who were 25th in points allowed.
Currently, the Bills, under new head coach Joe Brady, have made offensive improvements. However, they appear to be struggling defensively since losing their former coach, Sean McDermott, who prioritized defense.
