Oklahoma State and Iowa State delivered a thrilling game on Halloween night, combining for 100 points. The high-scoring match, however, ended in frustration for the visiting Cowboys and their fans.
Trailing 48-42 with less than three minutes left, Oklahoma State executed a 12-play drive culminating in wide receiver Wyatt Young’s second touchdown, tying the game at 48. The Cowboys took the lead 49-48 with an extra point, leaving 53 seconds on the clock. However, an incident after Young’s touchdown became the key moment of the night.

After scoring, Young confronted Iowa State fans, including some children, prompting officials to penalize him for unsportsmanlike conduct. This penalty pushed the kickoff back 15 yards, allowing Iowa State to start from their 37-yard line after a return. Their first play gained 33 yards, immediately placing them in field goal range.
The Cyclones advanced into the red zone, setting up a game-winning field goal with two seconds left. Kicker Kyle Konrardy secured Iowa State’s 51-49 victory. The game was impacted by Young’s penalty, though it wasn’t the sole reason for the Cowboys’ loss, considering their defense allowed a significant play during Iowa State’s final drive.
Following the game, Young apologized on social media to Cowboys fans, teammates, and coaches for his actions. He admitted his behavior was a lack of discipline and maturity, taking full responsibility.
“I apologize to all Cowboy football supporters, my teammates, and coaches for the lack of discipline and selfishness I displayed,” Young wrote. “Football is a team sport, and one play can change the outcome of the whole game. I regret representing Oklahoma State the way I did.”
Oklahoma State’s head coach Eric Morris described the penalty as “the most selfish penalty ever” in his postgame press conference. With this loss, Oklahoma State’s record fell to 5-3, diminishing their College Football Playoff hopes.
