Raccoon Rescue in Austin: A Happy Ending

1 hour ago 0

Raccoons often find themselves in troublesome situations while looking for food. Known to tip over garbage cans and rip open bags, they even climb into attics if they gain access. When seeking places to rest, they prefer tree hollows, but this can lead to problems if they misjudge the space.

In Austin, Texas, firefighters faced such a challenge. A raccoon got its head stuck in a tree hole. A local resident notified the Austin Fire Department to assist the trapped animal. It remains unclear whether the raccoon searched for food or a new den when this happened.

Responding promptly, the firefighters used a Jaws of Life tool to free the raccoon from the predicament. Upon freeing it, the raccoon seemed limp, leading to concerns about its wellbeing.

Reassurance came from the Austin Firefighter Association: “RACCOON RESCUE UPDATE: HE’S OKAY! For all who worried, the raccoon is alive and unharmed.” Despite initial appearances, the raccoon was neither unconscious nor harmed, confirmed by the team lowering it gently using a catch pole.

Perhaps just embarrassed by its error in judgment, the raccoon was understandably fatigued. Following the ordeal, the raccoon was handed over to Animal Control and reported to be in good health.

“Thank you to all who expressed concern. We’re delighted the rescue concluded well,” the update stated.
