Michael Penix Jr. is maintaining a positive outlook despite throwing four interceptions during the Atlanta Falcons’ 16-0 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The quarterback expressed commitment to improving in his post-game comments.
Penix threw three interceptions in the first half but remained upbeat, stating, “Nah man, I ain’t never throwin four picks in a game. It’s all good, man. I’m gonna shake back. I promise you I will.” He acknowledged the impact of challenging weather conditions but did not use it as an excuse for his turnovers.
The game marked a rare scenario for the opposing team. Buccaneers’ quarterback Baker Mayfield did not complete a pass, yet they still won, highlighting how Penix’s turnovers influenced the game. According to Darius Hayes of Sports Illustrated, Penix emphasized the importance of safeguarding the ball in adverse conditions, saying, “Both teams have to play in it. So, for us, knowing the conditions were like that, as a quarterback and a leader, I have to protect the ball. That’s the only way we’re going to be able to win these games. I did a poor job of that today.”
Despite the setback, Penix has shown strong performance in previous games. Before facing the Buccaneers, he had only one interception against the Green Bay Packers and accumulated six touchdown passes with no interceptions in his two prior matchups.
