Lamar Jackson returned to the field on Sunday after a high-ankle sprain in the Baltimore Ravens’ October 4 victory over the Tennessee Titans. However, his time was cut short due to a thumb injury on the Ravens’ first offensive play.
He is expected to be placed on injured reserve this week, likely needing thumb surgery. This could potentially end his season.
Following the Buffalo Bills’ decisive 36-10 win against the Ravens, Bills quarterback Josh Allen expressed support for Jackson. Allen, a competitor of Jackson’s for the NFL MVP in recent seasons, said, “I hope Lamar’s doing alright. You hate to see that from a competitive standpoint. Hope he’s doing okay.”
The Ravens faced additional challenges as backup quarterback Tyler Huntley sustained a toe injury during the game. Baltimore turned to their emergency third-option, rookie Joe Fagnano. Fagnano managed 10 of 21 passing for 91 yards and one interception.
Preseason expectations saw the Ravens and Bills as strong AFC contenders for the Super Bowl. However, the Ravens’ playoff prospects are dwindling, as evidenced by their current 4-4 record following the loss to Buffalo.
Ravens first-year head coach Jesse Minter expressed determination to remain competitive despite the challenges. He stated, “We’ll do everything in our power to keep rolling, to keep this thing going, to get it back on the right side with whatever that looks like and whoever that’s playing.”
Minter emphasized the importance of unity and belief in the team’s resilience. He remarked, “It’s definitely my job to make sure that we stay together, that we don’t point fingers, that we have each other’s back, that we believe in the next man up mentality.”
The Ravens will face the Jacksonville Jaguars on “Thursday Night Football” in Week 9.
