Democratic Senate candidate James Talarico shows remarkable strength in the latest polls against Republican Ken Paxton in Texas. A new survey by the New York Times/Siena College indicates Talarico leading by seven points. The poll released on November 1 places Talarico at 50% compared to Paxton’s 43% among likely voters, marking his largest advantage before the midterm elections.
This result signifies a pivotal moment for Talarico, attempting a Democratic Senate victory in Texas—a state where no Democrat has secured a Senate seat since 1988. The survey gains attention due to Siena’s reputation as a top-tier polling organization. The New York Times/Siena polling operation holds an A rating from VoteHub.
Talarico’s lead in the NYT/Siena poll represents his strongest outcome from a nationally recognized source. An earlier poll by the University of Texas/Texas Politics Project showed Talarico with an eight-point lead over Paxton, although this survey included registered rather than likely voters.
Furthermore, RealClearPolitics’ average places Talarico ahead with a narrower 2.5-point advantage. The average from October 15 to November 1 shows Talarico at 49% against Paxton’s 46.5%.
Talarico’s Chances of Victory Rise in Prediction Markets
Prediction markets increasingly favor Talarico to win as the latest polling results emerge. On Polymarket, Talarico trades at 76% favorability compared to 26% for Paxton. Kalshi also shows Talarico leading, with a 74% chance of victory against Paxton’s 26%. Kalshi’s margin forecast suggests Talarico could win by 3.8 percentage points.
These figures reflect implied probabilities based on trading prices rather than traditional polling and can shift as traders respond to new developments. Yet, they indicate Talarico as a frontrunner, despite Texas historically supporting Republican Senate candidates.
In a recent campaign event, Talarico described the election as a clash between “the powers that be and the powers that ought to be,” criticizing powerful interests for supporting Paxton. He emphasized his dedication to “teachers and nurses, farmers and ranchers” and other everyday Texans.
Ken Paxton Makes His Final Pitch
Ken Paxton continues his campaign efforts across Texas to counter Talarico’s polling lead. At a rally in San Antonio, he stressed affordability and proposed the “Protecting the Texas Promise Plan,” aiming to enhance Texans’ economic prospects.
Recognizing the tight race, Paxton told supporters that “every poll shows it’s gonna come down to the wire,” urging Republicans to vote on Tuesday, emphasizing unity with President Trump’s slogan: “Fight, fight, fight.”
However, Paxton’s campaign schedule has shifted, as his planned Election Eve appearance at the Alamo was removed. The updated schedule lists other events and lacks public explanation for the change.
Paxton encountered a disruption from a protester during a recent appearance. The incident, caught on video, added an uneasy moment to his campaign.
The race garners attention as Talarico aims to convert polling gains into votes, while Paxton strives to hold onto a Senate seat long dominated by Republicans.
